IDF Tops Poll Of Most Trusted Institutions, Political Parties Dead Last
The IDF is the most trusted national institution in Israel, according to a new poll released by the Central Bureau of Statistics. Some 81% of Israelis expressed trust in the IDF, with the local councils coming in second at 61%. The Police received 40%, and 38% voiced trust in the Knesset. Political parties ranked dead last, with only 22% of citizens saying they trust their elected representatives.
In addition, 85% of those surveyed said that they are unable to influence government policy, and 75% felt that they did not have influence on local ruling councils.
It was the first poll released on the matter since 2015.
Police Arrest 3 Teens for Throwing Firebombs at Israeli Cars
The Jerusalem Police arrested three minors, residents of the Arab neighborhood of Isawiya in Jerusalem.
The teenagers prepared Molotov cocktails and threw them at travelling Israeli cars on the road outside of Maale Adumin as well as the gas station at the entrance to Isawiya over the last few weeks. No casualties were reported. The suspects will be brought in before the Jerusalem Magistrate Court for a remand hearing today.
State Charges 2 Israeli Arabs for Light Rail Rock Throwing
The Jerusalem District Attorney filed a charge for 6,912 NIS to the Jerusalem District Court this morning, against two 17 year olds who threw rocks at the light rail and shattered the train’s window in September 2015. The sum is equal to the amount that the state had to invest in order to repair the damages.
The lawsuit was filed as a move to enforce laws against rioters, as well as ongoing efforts to deter public rail disruptions. Israel has been dealing with hundreds of rock throwing incidents over the past two years.
Egyptian Foreign Minister to Meet Netanyahu in Tel Aviv Today
Egypt’s Foreign Minister, Sameh Shoukri, is expected to arrive in Israel today and meet Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, according to the Palestinian Ma’an news agency.
The two will meet in Tel Aviv and discuss the security situation in the Sinai and the negotiations between Israel and the Palestinian Authority. The report added that the visit is also in preparation of a future visit by Netanyahu to Egypt.
Palestinian Media: Tunnel Collapses in Gaza, Killing an Islamic Jihad Member
Palestinian media has reported that a tunnel collapsed in Beit Hanun in the Gaza Strip, killing a member of the Islamic Jihad terror organization. He was identified as 25-year-old Ibrahim Al-Masri. Seven others were extricated from the tunnel according to the reports.
