Police Summons B’tselem Photographer who Filmed Killing of Terrorist in Hebron

Emad Abu Shamsieh, the photographer who filmed the controversial video of an IDF soldier shooting a wounded terrorist in Hebron on March 24, has been summoned for questioning at the Hebron police, according to B’tselem spokeswoman Sarit Michaeli.

According to Abu Shamsieh’s lawyer, Gaby Lasky, the police did not offer an explanation as to why he had been summoned.

IDF Demolishes Home of Terrorist Who Murdered Gennady Kaufman in Hebron

The IDF has demolished the home of terrorist Ihab Masoudi in Hebron along with border police and civil administration forces, according to an IDF spokesperson.

Masoudi committed a deadly stabbing attack near the Cave of the Patriarchs on December 7, 2015. He stabbed gardener Gennady Kaufman, who died of his wounds two weeks later.

Knesset Passes First Reading of Bill Protecting Detained Soldier

The Knesset approved the first reading of a bill proposed by Member of Knesset Eyal Ben Reuven (Zionist Union), that would prohibit the publication of the name and address of the soldier who shot and killed a Palestinian assailant in Hebron last Thursday, until the case is fully closed.

“We must thoroughly examine operational incidents,” remarked MK Reuven. however there is an obligation to protect our our soldiers just as there is with conducting an investigation of them.”

The soldier was detained for shooting the assailant a short time after the stabbing attack already had taken place.

 

Chief of Staff Eizenkot Expresses Support for Plight of Soldiers, Necessity to Abide by IDF Moral Code

Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Gadi Eizenkot wrote an official letter, responding to last week’s incident in Hebron in which an IDF soldier killed a Palestinian attacker shortly following a stabbing attack. In the letter entitled, “protecting the home, maintaining the purity of arms,” Eizenkot expressed support for the plight of IDF soldiers who find themselves in the midst of fighting against a wave of terror, but called for soldiers to abide by all of the ethical criteria of IDF operational tactics.

“We will continue to back every soldier who errs in heat of battle, against an enemy that endangers the lives of civilians and soldiers,” Eizenkot stressed. “However, we will not hesitate to prosecute the soldiers and commanders that deviate from the operational and ethical criteria, by which we operate.”

 

Palestinian Arrested on Temple Mount for Following Jews with PA Flag

A Palestinian who followed a group of Jews visiting the Temple Mount while waving the Palestinian Authority flag, has been arrested by the police and taken for questioning.

It is a common occurrence for Jews visiting their holy site to be met with harassment, shouting and attempted violence by Muslims at the site. Jews are commonly arrested for responding to the provocations, while the harassers are rarely arrested.
