Hebron Shooting: Prosecutor Downgrades Charge to Manslaughter

The Israeli soldier who was filmed shooting an already-injured Palestinian attacker in Hebron will be tried for manslaughter, the military prosecutor Lt. Col. Adoram Rigler said today in court during a remand hearing. The military had previously said that the soldier would be tried for murder, but the charge has apparently been downgraded.

“Evidence has solidified over the past two days,” the prosecutor said, asking the court to extend remand for seven days.

The autopsy of the terrorist’s body will be conducted by an Israeli pathologist in the presence of a Palestinian pathologist chosen by the deceased’s family.

Hamas Test-Fires Several Rockets From Gaza Into Mediterranean Sea

Hamas fighters in Gaza reportedly test-fired several rockets that were launched in the direction of the Mediterranean Sea.

The reported tests occurred in the background of recently discovered efforts by Hamas to rebuild its tunnel infrastructure that was decimated during Operation Protective Edge in the summer of 2014. This past winter, many of the rebuilt tunnels have collapsed and have been flooded by rainstorms.

Israel and Palestinian Authority Security Officials Reportedly Meet In Jerusalem

According to Palestinian sources, there was a meeting last night in Jerusalem between senior security officials of both Israel and the Palestinian Authority. The meeting reportedly dealt with maintaining existing security arrangements between Israeli and the Palestinian Authority.

The meeting was conducted against the backdrop of a wave of terror attacks since October of 2015 as well as international efforts to restart the negotiation process between Israel and the Palestinian Authority.

 

MK Livni Hopes For Speedy Conclusion to Investigation of Zionist Union Head Herzog

Responding to recent reports circulating that Zionist Union Chairman Issac Herzog was allegedly involved in a scandal of campaign financing irregularities in the 2013 Labor primaries, MK Tzipi Livni, who sits in the second slot of the Zionist Union’s list of Members of Knesset, expressed tacit support earlier today, for her faction’s chairman as well as a desire for the episode to come to a conclusion.

“I hope that the investigation will soon end and that the matter will be behind us,” said Livni.

Livni made her remarks at the Israel Institute of Surveyors’ annual conference.

Yesh Atid Chairman Yair Lapid praised the US State Department for its condemnation of the United Nations Human Rights Council’s calling to blacklist Israeli and international companies that conduct business in Judea and Samaria.

“It’s good to see that the hypocrisy of the UN Human Rights Council and its unilateralism towards Israel is not lacking in the eyes of our friends in the world,” Lapid reacted.
