Israel’s Population Estimated at 8,462,000 at the End of 2015

Israel’s Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) released data on Israel’s demographics for the year of 2015.

As of December 31, 2015, Israel had a total population of approximately 8,462,000 of which 74.9% (6.3 million) were Jewish, 20.7% (1.7 million) were Arab and 4.4% (370,000) belonged to other ethnic groups.

Israel’s population grew by 2% in 2015. 176,000 new babies were born and 28,000 new immigrants arrived in Israel. 

According to CBS figures, Jerusalem is Israel’s most populated city with almost 850,000 residents. Tel Aviv is Israel’s second most populated city with 426,000 residents, followed by Haifa (277,000), Rishon LeZion (240,000), Petach Tikva (225,000) and Ashdod (218,000).

Border Guards Prevented Smuggling Armored Plates Into Gaza

Security officers of the Israeli Administration of Border Crossing managed to prevent a major smuggling attempt into the Gaza Strip today, December 30.

At some point after 3 p.m. today, a freightliner truck carrying automobile spare parts into Gaza through the Kerem Shalom crossing, was inspected by the security officers at the check point. The officers, who found the truck suspicious and conducted an authorized search, discovered several military grade armored metal plates hidden with the rest of the shipment.

Israeli Department of Defense officials suspect that these plates were intended to be delivered into the hands of militant groups in Gaza, such as the Hamas.

“It is the first time we uncovered an attempt to smuggle armored gear or defensive equipment into the Gaza strip,” stated a Dep’ of Defense official.

A full investigation is no underway to determine who is behind this smuggling attempt and to what purpose.

Israeli Man Critically Wounded in Hebron Stabbing Dies After 3 Weeks

Gennady Kaufman, 40, a well-known Jewish resident of Kiryat Arba, died around 7:00 am this morning in Shaarei Tzedek hospital in Jerusalem.

Kaufman faught for his life for over three weeks after he was stabbed and critically wounded in Hebron on December 7 by Palestinian terrorist Ihab Maswada. He was stabbed while waiting at a transport station near the Cave of the Patriarchs, where he worked as a gardener.

Reported stabbing in Samaria

There was a reported stabbing attack near the Palestinian village of Chavarrah. There are two victims, one of whom was stabbed in his thigh. One of the two terrorists was shot.

 

Stabbing Attempts Thwarted in Samaria and in Hebron

A Palestinian woman was arrested after apparently attempting to perpetrate a stabbing attack in the community of Ma’ale Shomron in Samaria.

She walked towards the entrance to the community, and when security guards suspected her and approached her, she discarded a knife and attempted to flee. She was caught and arrested by the forces.

Several minutes later, another stabbing was prevented in Hebron. A Palestinian woman was caught with a knife during a routine security check at the entrance to the Cave of the Patriarchs.
