Israeli Supreme Court Maintains Conviction of Islamic Movement Leader
The Israeli Supreme Court rejected an appeal to overturn the conviction of Sheikh Raed Salah, head of the northern branch of Israel’s Islamic Movement, for incitement to violence and racism. However, the Court lowered Salah’s time of imprisonment from 11 months to nine months.
Name of IDF Soldier Accused of Manslaughter Revealed: Elor Azaria
Cpl. Elor Azaria, 20 years old from Ramla, is the IDF medic who was filmed shooting a wounded Palestinian assailant in Hebron on March 24, the Jaffa Military Court cleared for publication on Monday.
His name had been under a court gag order since the incident, which caused great controversy in Israel.
IDF Soldier Who Shot Subdued Assailant in Hebron Charged With Manslaughter
An IDF medic who has been at the center of public attention in Israel after he was filmed shooting a wounded Palestinian who had carried out a stabbing attack minutes earlier, was officially charged with manslaughter on Monday afternoon.
According to the indictment, filed at the Jaffa Military Court, the soldier arrived at the scene after the stabbing attack and treated the wounded soldier. He then walked towards the wounded Palestinian assailant, Abdul Fatah al-Sharif, cocked his weapon and shot him once from close range, aiming at his head.
“The soldier did all this in contrast with rules of engagement and without military justification,” added the military prosecution. “The assailant al-Sharif was lying on the ground, did not attack again and did not pose an immediate threat to the defendant or to the civilians and soldiers who were at the scene. In his actions, the defendant caused the unlawful death of the assailant al-Sharif.”
Three Palestinians Indicted for Funding Anti-Jewish Temple Mount Groups
A network of terror funding activists has been arrested and indicted, the police and the Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet) cleared for publication on Monday.
According to the indictment, filed at the Jerusalem District Court, the activists funded members of the outlawed Mourabitun and Murabitat organizations that act to exclude Jews from the Temple Mount.
The three defendants, Umm al-Fahm resident Muhammad Jabarin and residents of Silwan in Jerusalem Najib Kawasmeh Jada and Khalil Abasi, are still being interrogated. The Jerusalem Prosecutor requested that their remand be extended until the end of court proceedings against them.
Three 13-Year-Old Arabs Arrested for Attacking Jewish Boy in Jerusalem
The Jerusalem police arrested three 13-year-old Arabs who are suspected of attacking a Jewish boy in the Muslim Quarter of the Old City.
The Jewish boy’s mother reported the incident to the police who were able to locate security video footage of the attack. They caught and arrested two of the suspected attackers who fled into a school, and a third suspect who escaped into a nearby residential building.
The three suspects were taken for questioning at a nearby police station.
