Police Discover Two Pipe Bombs at Herod’s Gate in Jerusalem

Two 40-year-old Israeli Arabs from eastern Jerusalem were arrested on Wednesday morning after police forces discovered two pipe bombs at a pretzel stall they operate at Herod’s Gate in Jerusalem’s Old City.

Police and border police forces who conducted the search also found pistol bullets at the stall.

Police Spokesperson Asi Aharoni said that a sapper was acting to neutralize the bombs and that an investigation has been launched to determine the details and background of the incident.

Likud Party Suspends Controversial MK From Parliamentary Committees

MK David Bitan (Likud), chairman of the Knesset Committee, announced today that the ruling party has decided to suspend MK Oren Hazan (Likud) from two parliamentary committees on which he previously sat.

MK Hazan lost his seat in the Knesset Committee and in the important the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee and will be replaced by MK Amir Ohana.

According to Likud party officials, the decision to suspend Hazan came after a series of unjustified absences from the Knesset, especially during voting, which on several occasions caused the Likud to lose important votes.

In response to the suspension Hasan has released a testament in which he claimed his absences were due to “health issues,” and blamed the chairman of the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, MK Tzachi Hanegbi (Likud), for scapegoating him for the Likud failures in the committee.

Israeli Court Extends Administrative Detention of Hilltop Youth Leader Meir Ettinger by Four Months

The Lod District Court has approved the state’s request to extend Meir Ettinger’s administrative detention by four months, in addition to the seven months he has served thus far.

Ettinger is grandson of right-wing Rabbi Meir Kahana whose organization, Kach, was outlawed in 1994. Ettinger is considered to be a hilltop youth leader and was arrested during 2015 without charges pressed against him.

 

Kenyan President Meets with Netanyahu and Rivlin: “Israel is an Important and Special Friend”

President of Kenya Uhuru Kenyatta met this morning with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and President Reuven Rivlin as part of his official visit to Israel.

During the visit, Netanyahu and Kenyatta approved a cooperation between the countries in the field of water and agriculture, and the establishment of a joint committee.

President Kenyatta said that he hopes the visit will “signify the relation between the countries, which are strong and stable. We in Kenya view Israel as an important and special friend. This friendship was not born only from our long shared history, but also from productive cooperation in important fields such as security, water resource management, fishing education, technology and science.”

“War on terror is global and we need to cooperate in order to defeat it,” added Kenyatta. “We need to actively defend our common values, principles, faiths and liberties. We all expect the cooperation to continue against the violent extremism.”

 

 

 

Israel Demolishes Homes of Terrorists who Murdered Five on the Same Day

IDF forces demolished the homes of Raed Khalil bin-Mahmoud and Muhammad Abdelbasad Harub during the night, two terrorists who carried out two separate deadly terrorist attacks on the same day.

Khalil, a 36-year-old father of five, murdered two Israelis in a stabbing attack in the Panorama building in Tel Aviv on November 19, 2015. Reuven Aviram, 51, and Aharon Yisayev, 32, were killed and another man was injured.  Khalil’s home in the village of Dura was demolished.

Harub, a resident of the village of Dir Samet where his home was demolished, killed three people in a drive-by shooting attack in Gush Etzion on the same day. US citizen Ezra Schwartz, 18, and Yaakov Don, 49, were killed in the attack along with Palestinian 24-year-old Shadi Arfa.
